2nd/1st Leicestershire Yeomanry, Territorial Force, formed in 1914.

Joined the 2nd/1st North Midland Mounted Brigade.

Lt. Col. R B MUIR O.B.E

(2nd/1st Leics Yeomanry)

Robert Bunten Muir was born in Glasgow in July 1862 and was educated at Cheltenham College. Appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Leicestershire Yeomanry in January 1890, he was advanced to Captain on the eve of the Boer War. He subsequently served in South Africa for 13 months in No. 65 (Leicester) Company, 17th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. During the Great War Muir attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2/1st Leicestershire Yeomanry, was mentioned in despatches and awarded the O B.E. (London Gazette 3 June 1919). For many years resident at Kirby Hall, Melton Mowbray, he was a keen huntsman and a J.P. He died in March 1937. War Office, dated 21st October 1914, Lt.Col (Temp) 2nd/1st LY PAO.

Peter, was awarded the SWB (168176). He enlisted on the 5th of October 1914 and was discharged on the 27th of February 1917.

Edward, awarded the SWB (B98312). He enlisted on the 10th December 1915 and was discharged on the 20th of January 1919.

William, awarded the SWB (B99922). He enlisted on the 2nd of March 1916 and was discharged on the 16th of January 1919.

Joe, was awarded the SWB (B98325). He enlisted on the 2nd of March 1916 and was discharged on the 18th of January 1919.

 

65374 Tpr. J R DRABBLE

John Ross, was awarded the SWB (B99963). He enlisted on the 11th of December 1915 and was discharged on the 16th of January 1919.

Ezekial, was awarded the SWB (B104185). He enlisted on the 17th of October 1914 and was discharged on the 22nd of January 1919.

 

65365 Tpr. B W GOULDING

Bred, was awarded the SWB (B99964). Hen enlisted on the 2nd of March 1916 and was discharged on the 16th of January 1919.

 

255536 Tpr. F RUSSELL

Died 9th December 1917 and is buried in the Benwell (St. James) Church yard in Northumberland, plot A.350.

Buried in Wath-Upon-Dearne, Rotherham. He died on the 10th of April 1918, it could have been an accidental death whilst on active service. The photo shows Alwyn in the uniform of what appears to be a rifle regiment.... probably a previous regiment prior to joining the LY.
