B (LDY) Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry have now adopted the cypher of HRH Princess Alexandra. This new regimental badge is uniform throughout the Royal Yeomanry (on headdress). However, all Squadron insignia remain.

LDY Officers Dress Cap
Two plain white metal half ball buttons attach the leather chin strap.

LDY Officers Service Dress cap.
Two plain brass half ball buttons attach the leather chin strap. LDY PAO officers bi-metal brass cap badge.

Khaki jacket :- Cloth of Regimental pattern (Dege & Skinner have the pattern under LY PAO and filed under the old Saville Row tailors of "Rogers"). Jacket cut full in the skirt; four patch pockets; no band at the waist; pointed cuffs on the sleeves, but without buttons; rank badges gilt and enamel; collar badges (Brass), anodised LDY buttons and officer pattern brass LDY shoulder titles.

Officers wear four large staybright LDY buttons on the front of the jacket and six medium buttons for pockets and shoulder tabs.

 

Shirt and tie:- material of Regimental colour (Dege & Skinner have the shirt colour under LY PAO and filed under the old Saville Row tailors of "Rogers"); knitted tie.


Light Cavalry Officers Undress Crossbelt

(PAOLYC Hussar silver fittings, later pattern c1900. The silver fittings are a common Hussar pattern and can be purchased from Military antique dealers on eBay and other auctions)

 

Coat, British Warm :- Cloth to be of Regimental pattern. A double-breasted coat, lined in fleece; "mufti front"; length just short of the knee; plain sleeves with no cuffs, with one hole and button; leather buttons; rank badges gilt and enamel.

Sword slings are worn underneath the SD jacket when the crossbelt is worn and swords are required. The chrome plated scabbard should be worn with these sword slings.

Accoutrements

Scarlet Folding Field Service Cap, with silver piping and two small plain half ball brass buttons. Brown leather gloves and Cavalry Officer's Crop (when without sword).

LDY Other Ranks

 

LDYPAO O/R No.1 Dress Cap

Post 2006 Royal Yeomanry Cap badge to be worn on "Regimental" Occasions otherwise LDYPAO Cap badge on "Squadron" occasion. 

 

LDY SSM O/R Crossbelt SSM  Crossbelt

 

Jacket: Standard issue to Cavalry regiments. O/R wear the medium size LDY Staybright button on their service dress for all points on the jacket a button is needed.

 

Shirt and tie:- Fawn shirt (issued); light brown tie (issued).

An item of No.2 dress is the white Royal Artillery Lanyard. This is worn in respect to the service given in World War 2 by the 153rd & 154th (Leicestershire Yeomanry) Field Regiments, RA. Instructors badge is placed on the rank chevrons, "qualified" other ranks on left lower sleeve. Senior NCO's Crowns are placed above the LDY Cipher.

LDY PAO are a Sabre Regiment/Squadron and therefore Parade with "Sabres" and not Lances.

Worn by mounted Corps or Cavalry soldiers and grooms - on
non-ceremonial mounted parades, and as ordered.

Slung Sword and Short, White Gloves worn on Escort rehearsals.
Forage Cap (Service Dress Cap on exercise or training).

British Warm Coat or Raincoat may be worn in inclement weather.

 

 

QRH Corporal in mounted undress with the regiments drum horse. LDY O/R undress exercise and training uniform.

Regimental Tailors :- Messrs. Rogers, 8, New Burlington Street, Saville Row, W.

A. Obligatory
Detail of Uniform to be worn by officers:-
Khaki Cap :- Regimental pattern, to be obtained from Messrs. Herbert Johnson, 38, New Bond Street, W. Cap badge, bronze; buttons, bronze (plain); cap badge and buttons to be polished.
Khaki jacket :- Cloth of Regimental pattern. Jacket cut full in the skirt; four patch pockets; no band at the waist; pointed cuffs on the sleeves, but without buttons; rank badges gilt and enamel, 7/8 inch; collar badges and buttons, bronze, and to be polished.
Medals :- Officers medals will have small invisible loops on the jacket immediately above the medal ribbons to take the medal brooch. Medals to be mounted on a "cage brooch", with the ribbon folded down below the top of the medal, and with the medal sewn down to keep it in position when riding. Brooches can be obtained at Messrs. Hunt and Roskell, 25, Old Bond Street, W.
Breeches :- Cloth to be of Regimental pattern obtainable from Messrs. Rogers. Breeches may, however, be made by Officers' own breeches makers if required, but the Regimental cloth must be used.
Field boots :- Brown leather, with lace at the instep.
Spurs :- Ordinary hunting spurs, minimum length one inch. Guards to be worn on the over strap. Chains will not be worn.
Sam Browne belt :- Brown leather with one brace. Brown sword frog.
Sword :- Cavalry pattern, with plain brown leather scabbard. Sword knot of flat brown leather (Messrs. Wilkinson, of Pall Mall, recommended).
Gloves :- Brown leather riding gloves.
Coat, British Warm :- Cloth to be of Regimental pattern. A double-breasted coat, lined in fleece; "mufti front"; length just short of the knee; plain sleeves with no cuffs, with one hole and button; leather buttons; rank badges gilt and enamel, 7/8 inch.
Whistle :- Worn on lanyard on the right shoulder, and not on the brace of the Sam Browne belt.
Shirt and collars :- material of Regimental colour; collar and shirt of the same material; knitted tie; stiff collars will not be worn.  

Officers will carry sticks when swords are not worn.

B. Optional
Khaki puttees :- May be worn if desired.
Khaki slacks :- To be of the same cloth as the jacket; turned up at the bottom, and worn with brown shoes.

Note the "pointed cuff" on the sleeves (without the two buttons above each) as per regimental pattern.

Other Ranks


Instructors badge placed on the chevrons, "qualified" other ranks on left lower sleeve. Senior NCO  Crowns placed above the LY Silver Badge.
1928 LY PAO Dress Regs (305) state : Staff Sergeants will wear the badge of their trade on the top of their chevrons.
